Going Forward, Leading Change: Skills Training for More Effective Community Engagement

Saturday, JUNE 22

hosted by PIPE UP Network

Are you concerned about decisions being made and the projects being considered in the Lower Mainland, or anywhere in BC, that impact the health and well-being of our communities?  Do you want to learn skills on how to be more effective when engaging with your community, local media, and decision makers? Would you like to learn skills on how to build power and make meaningful change?

Then we have the opportunity for you!

The PIPE UP Network is bringing together a host of skilled organizers and advocates for an afternoon of dynamic skills training and capacity building open to anyone interested in nurturing skills for effective community engagement.

At the PIPE UP Network, our primary focus is on the risks associated with transporting tar sands diluted bitumen, and Kinder Morgan’s plans to build a new pipeline through the communities we call home. However, the skills training will be useful for all people who are keen on getting more engaged in issues that impact the lower mainland.

The event will involve a series of workshops on topics such as: Consensus Decision MakingEngaging Political Representatives, Media & Messaging, Participating in Environmental Review Assessments and Peaceful Direct Action.

The event will take place from 12:30pm – 6:30pm on Saturday, June 22nd in Yarrow.

Open to everyone but space is limited, so this is an RSPV event.

Participants are invited to stay for a community potluck dinner after the training.

If you would like more information or if you are interested in participating please email: jordanwilson77@gmail.com

The PIPE UP Network is made up of residents of Southwestern BC who have come together because of our concerns about the safety, environmental, and financial implications, of shipping tar sands along Kinder Morgan’s  Trans Mountain Pipeline, which runs from Edmonton, AB to Vancouver, BC.

Members of the network are dedicated to educating themselves and their communities about the existing pipeline, plans for expansion, and alternatives to tar sands; showing that we have the power to make the needed changes.
